Nationally, Germany recorded <b>3,622 new startup foundings in 2025<\/b> \u2014 a new record \u2014 with AI-first business models driving much of the growth, per the <span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.munich-startup.de\/en\/120324\/startupdetector-report-2025-2026\/\">Startupdetector Report<\/a><\/u><\/span>.<\/p><p>That last figure \u2014 the deeptech share \u2014 is the one most relevant to our work.<\/p><h2 class=\"western\">The gap we see repeatedly<\/h2><p>A university lab produces strong deeptech IP. A team spins it out. They raise a pre-seed round and start talking to VCs \u2014 and almost never, at the same time, to the EU funding instruments built for exactly this stage: <span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/horizon-europe_en\">Horizon Europe<\/a><\/u><\/span>, the <span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-funding-opportunities\/eic-accelerator_en\">EIC Accelerator<\/a><\/u><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chips-ju.europa.eu\/\">Chips JU<\/a><\/u><\/span>, and Digital Europe.<\/p><p>These instruments fund R&amp;D without taking equity.
